PhenoVista work with biopharm clients globally to deliver high content imaging-based, phenotypic cell assays. They do this for; lead optimisation - development and screening, mechanism of action studies and target validation for preclinical models.

The organisation was founded in 2014 and is based in San Diego, supporting clients with their service based solution across the globe. Their specialist teams are passionate and creative problem solvers who deliver on projects ranging from straightforward assays to complex and high risk projects.

The Brief

PhenoVista first engaged with CSG Talent following a recommendation from a senior level professional in the industry who had a successful experience working with Vicky personally at CSG Talent.

With limited experience of working with a global recruiter, PhenoVista had previously recruited themselves, predominantly through word of mouth. However, appreciating the complexity of this refined search, the CEO required the knowledge, expertise and network reach of a specialist recruiter in their field.

They had a requirement to source a Global VP of Commercial in short time constraints in order to fulfil business needs and goals. This role was vital in building commercial operations, creating a solid structure for the business and implementing new and effective processes.

PhenoVista were keen to source a candidate with relevant industry experience, a services background and someone who also held technological skills to be successful in this role. They were keen to widen their search to ensure they had access to a diverse pool of candidates as an equal opportunities employer.

The Process

Vicky was retained to work in partnership with PhenoVista for this recruitment campaign. An initial payment was made for Vicky to initiate searches and begin conversations within her network. Subsequent fees were then invoiced once the role had been appointed, and following the start date of the Global VP of Commercial.

Following the full brief from the client, Vicky began having conversations with suitable candidates in her network, approaching others with experience in this field and creating and promoting appealing advertisements to attract high calibre candidates. After reviewing all applications, of which there was a high volume of around 250 potential candidates, Vicky narrowed this search down to those with the desired skillset and experience.

Following a comprehensive executive search project and initial conversations, Vicky screened between 40 and 45 possible matches for the role of Global VP of Commercial. From this, she was able to shortlist five highly experienced candidates for the role to PhenoVista. All five shortlisted candidates were invited to interview stage and the client was exceptionally pleased by the high standard and relevance of all candidates put forward, there were no candidates presented that didn't match the initial brief given by PhenoVista.

The Results

Vicky successfully placed the role of Global VP of Commercial within a short time period, placing the candidate she had initially sourced and first engaged with throughout the process.

The experience for the client was seamless, with Vicky effectively acting as an extension to the business. Not only did she source the most suitable candidate to drive forward the business strategy, but she supported the client throughout this process. She advised on commercial market information, competitive salary ranges for this level of role and discussed both benefits and incentive packages for PhenoVista to consider in order to attract the right candidates for the role.
