CSG Talent Working in Partnership

Energy Recruitment: How CSG Talent Helped EPE Fill Key Roles

Electric Power Engineers (EPE) is an energy consulting firm dedicated to advancing the energy transition through innovative engineering solutions. Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, EPE has over five decades of experience partnering with clients across the energy ecosystem to design and implement the grid of the future.

Their mission is to harness world-class expertise and innovative power systems technology to engineer a successful energy transition. EPE’s industry expertise and client-focused approach have made them a trusted partner in delivering resilient and sustainable energy solutions.

Overcoming Niche Talent Gaps and Scaling Quickly

When EPE needed to scale its team with both engineers and sales managers, they turned to CSG Talent energy recruitment specialist Sam Harris for support. The relationship started when their Vice President of Business Development, a former candidate of Sam’sneeded help growing his team.

The main challenge EPE faced was the major shortage of engineering talent, especially senior-level talent capable of managing thconnection of a renewable energy site to the grid. This is a highly technical and complex process, and there were very few suitable candidates available locally, making CSG Talent’s extensive network crucial to accessing global talent pools to find the necessary skills.

On the commercial side, EPE required professionals who could handle a high volume of proposals and nurture external relationships. Unlike the engineering roles, which required specific technical experience, the sales positions focused more on soft skills such as adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to drive business growth. Due to the nature of the roles and their varying requirements, EPE required a partner who could tailor the search to each specific brief.

Sourcing Senior Talent Across Technical and Commercial Roles

CSG Talent delivered five business-critical hires across North America, including four senior-level commercial roles and one engineer role.

To fill one of the challenging engineering roles, Sam leveraged his global talent network, successfully identifying a highly skilled Canadian engineer working in Qatar who was looking to return to Canada. This not only highlights the strength of CSG Talent’s international talent pool in addressing local shortages but also showcases their recruitment experts’ skill in managing the complex and time-intensive nature of global relocation, ultimately providing businesses with exceptional candidates capable of driving business growth.

CSG Talent took a proactive approach during the initial screening phase, focusing on candidates who were active in the market and already working within the competitive energy landscape. They searched globally to find talent with relevant industry knowledge, while also prioritising candidates with transferable skills who could quickly adapt to EPE’s business model.

In total, the recruitment process resulted in:

  • Two engineering placements from a shortlist of around 10 carefully selected candidates

  • Three senior sales manager placements from a broader pool of around 20 shortlisted professionals

The talent hired brought with them experience from some of the most respected names from across all areas of the energy sector. This strong variety of backgrounds reflects the flexible, skills-first approach of CSG Talent’s recruitment experts which, where appropriate, can be adopted to seek candidates with the right skills and potential, rather than limiting the search to one specific sector.

Delivering Results Through Speed, Collaboration, and a Skills First Approach

One of the key successes of this project was the speed and efficiency of the placements. From the initial briefing to the signing of offer letters, each placement was completed in around three weeks, which is an impressive turnaround considering the complexity and seniority of the roles involved. With all positions filled on a retained basis, CSG Talent was able to move swiftly and decisively, offering a streamlined recruitment process.

A major factor in this efficiency was the close collaboration between CSG Talent and EPE. Regular weekly calls allowed for open communication and quick feedback on shortlisted candidates, meaning CSG Talent could stay aligned with EPE’s requirements and adapt where necessary.

These hires have had a strong positive impact on EPE, with the company particularly impressed with the Director of Business Development, who hit the ground running from the very start with her ability to adapt quickly, work under pressure, and add immediate value to the business.

By combining industry expertise, global networks, and a skills first approach, CSG Talent delivered long-term value to EPE and are committed to supporting them with their future hiring needs.
