Portmeirion

Portmeirion began as the independent company Portmeirion Pottery in 1960, and has since acquired Royal Worcester and Spode brands, as well as Pimpernel and Wax Lyrical. Portmeirion produces what is now the most successful ceramics series of botanical subjects, and with a range of other products – pottery, tableware, textiles, candles – is a leading global distributor of goods within the Non-Food Consumer market.

CSG Talent have been working with Portmeirion for some time, and have placed a number of key roles within the organization.

A Long History

CSG Talent began work with Portmeirion in 2013, when the organization required help to fill their Group Sales and Marketing Director role. As a high profile position with major responsibilities, recruiting this role required more than a standard approach, as there was a limited talent pool available with the necessary skills and expertise.

Portmeirion selected CSG Talent as their talent expert to partner with them for their recruitment strategy.

An Ongoing Partnership

With a history of successful placements, CSG are now Portmeirion’s go-to recruitment service.

CSG have placed a further five roles: Head of National Accounts, two International Sales Managers, Northern Sales Account Manager and Head of Design and New Product Development. These have been a combination of both contingent and retained searches, and all direct headhunts.

CSG are in the process of assisting Portmeirion’s long term recruitment strategy, this being a four year strategic plan. This enables their company to have candidates in place to fill roles far enough in advance to allow the necessary training and experience.

Continued Success

To make sure that the candidates sourced were the right fit for the role, our consultant met up with Portmeirion’s HR Director, Group Sales and Marketing Director and Head of National Accounts on numerous occasions, to gain a thorough understanding of the positions and a feel for the business as a whole. This meant the candidates put forward were an appropriate match in both skill and in personality, ensuring a good culture fit.

For each of these roles, our consultant narrowed down lists of over 50 initial candidates to just two or three. Through internal screening and interviewing, CSG made sure that the candidates put forward were the perfect match.
