GSG Talent are exclusively partnered with a fast-growing Advanced Materials CDMO, with unrivalled solutions for the medical industry, they are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Business Development to drive business growth in the US.
As the Director of Business Development, you will be a key leader responsible for shaping and executing commercial strategy. You will drive revenue growth, identify new business opportunities, acquire new clients, and ensure that products and services align with market demands. This role requires a deep understanding of Class III medical devices, excellent strategic thinking, a strong technical background, and the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
This position will report directly to the CEO.
Responsibilities:
- Business Development: Drive sales growth throughout the entire portfolio of development and manufacturing services by creating revenue-generating partnerships with US medical device companies.
- Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, understanding their needs and ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty. Convert key stakeholders in purchasing, engineering, production, and quality into internal brand champions.
- Lead Acquisition: Acquire and qualify new prospects to grow and diversify the commercial pipeline.
- Commercial Strategy: In conjunction with the Commercial leadership team, contribute to and execute a comprehensive commercial strategy to drive revenue growth and US market expansion.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends and needs of our customers, opportunities, and potential challenges. Use data-driven insights to inform business decisions as well as short, medium, and long term development plans.
- Market Engagement: Lead market engagement activities (trade show exhibitions, customer presentations, site visits) to present the full range of services and to increase visibility and notoriety of the company.
- Project Initiation: Lead the internal effort, in conjunction with the R&D and engineering teams, to formulate statements of work defining activities and deliverables of new development projects. Calculate project pricing to ensure profitability.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations of contracts, pricing, and terms with clients and partners, ensuring a sustainable business.
- Revenue Forecasting: Develop and manage sales forecasts, budgets, and commercial pipelines to achieve revenue and profitability objectives.
- Competitive Intelligence: Monitor and analyse competitor activities, pricing strategies, market positioning, and performance to inform our competitive advantage.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Acting as the client's voice, collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction. Contribute to monthly internal and group reports, improvement action plans, risk analysis, process reviews, and project reviews.
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree or higher in engineering or life sciences, combined with over 7 years of commercial experience, developed and evolved over several technical and business development functions.
- Proven sales performance in a medical device CDMO
- Deep understanding of the ISO 13485 and FDA CFRP11 quality systems
- Excellent analytical decision-making and rigorous business skills;
- Interpersonal skills and commercial sensitivity, customer centric and consultative selling experience in a B2B environment;
- Dynamic, driven for results, motivated by success, and dedicated to teamwork
- Autonomy, initiatives, and adaptability will be assets to succeed in the company;
- Commercial focus, supported by technical understanding, in that order;
- Strong legal skill set, particularly building and negotiating development and manufacturing supply agreements.
