Your mission is to make sure all aspects of quality assurance within the plant are met. This involves guiding the facility in having the right systems, knowledge, capabilities, and practices to comply with all relevant regulations, certification programs, and customer requirements. Specifically, you're in charge of ensuring compliance, championing quality, and maintaining ongoing interactions and responsibilities with people and processes across all departments. Your role also involves close collaboration with plant management and employees, acting as a bridge with functional departments like Quality Assurance and Compliance, Human Resources, Accounting, New Product Development, Innovation, and EH&S.

Your Tasks:

  1. Create a culture of safety within the facility. Encourage everyone to prioritize safety, challenge any unsafe behaviors, actively engage in safety initiatives, and ensure all employees attend safety-related training.

  2. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Quality Systems.

  3. Coordinate preparations for regulatory, customer, and internal audits and inspections, and help implement corrective actions as needed.

  4. Ensure the timely issuance, distribution, and compliance with plant procedures.

  5. Oversee the FDA Record Review process.

  6. Administer the plant's Good Manufacturing Practices program.

  7. Analyze quality trends, trace the root causes of quality failures, and coordinate corrective actions.

  8. Manage the sustainability efforts and annual review of the Safe Quality Foods Program.

  9. Identify and implement development plans and training for supervisors and support staff under your supervision, both directly and indirectly.

  10. Take charge of food safety and regulatory responsibilities, ensuring the facility complies with the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing, and promptly report any food safety issues to the relevant personnel.

  11. Keep a close eye on ensuring that the department's activities meet or surpass the standards set by Quality Assurance.

  12. Foster regular engagement and interaction with all personnel to address their concerns and questions.

  13. Disseminate key performance indicators related to Quality Assurance throughout the organization and actively participate in recommending necessary changes to enhance business objectives.

  14. Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives within your department, across operations, and in other areas of the facility, collaborating with your team to ensure the plant's sustainability.

  15. Manage employee performance by setting expectations, holding individuals accountable, and instilling a sense of urgency in addressing operational needs.

  16. Collaborate closely with other departments to resolve ongoing problems, implement new procedures or processes, introduce new products or product lines, and develop new plans and designs.

  17. Advocate for effective business communication practices at all levels to keep key stakeholders well-informed and capable of responding appropriately.

  18. Ensure that all process changes, equipment changes, or product changes are effectively communicated to all employees in a timely manner.

  19. Cultivate a solid understanding of budgeting, uptime, problem-solving techniques, motivational strategies, long-range planning, and employee and labor relations, ensuring their effective implementation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • You have a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • You bring at least 5 years of experience in quality assurance or a related role, along with experience managing people and related processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • You possess a valid driver's license.
  • Your computer skills include proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SPC Programs, SAP, or ERP.
  • Your communication and presentation skills are excellent, and you can effectively communicate in English, both in writing and speaking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You have a Master's degree in a related field or an MBA.
  • Prior experience (1-3 years) in a unionized environment is a plus.
  • You've worked in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • While not mandatory, certifications like CMQ, CQA, CQE are preferred.
  • You hold the Safe Quality Foods Practitioner Certification.
  • You've completed Better Process Control School certification.
  • Possessing PCQI certification is a bonus.
