The Renewable Energy company was founded in the UK and in 2020 they decided to focus on developing the brand within the Australian market. CSG Talent’s Renewable Energy Specialist Consultant, Gavin Attwood made initial contact with Social Energy’s CEO to discuss their requirements for setting up in the new market. Gavin provided valuable advice to the company’s senior managers around what they would need to create a strong foundation in Australia and after careful consideration and a generous stakeholder investment, Social Energy engaged with CSG Talent on exclusive retained projects to find four senior State Sales Managers in VIC, NSW, QLD and SA.
Social Energy had set tight turnarounds for placement and specific criteria for suitable talent that Gavin had to work to and given the early nature of the renewables market, sourcing qualified talent in this space was a challenge. Our Renewable Energy expert undertook an extensive networking campaign ensuring to speak to all levels of people within the industry to understand their senior level connections and find relevant candidates for the roles. As well as this he provided Social Energy with a target competitor list they could tap into and whilst Social Energy knew some of them, CSG’s Renewable Energy team were able to provide some key insights and additional companies they had not been aware of previously. Once the list was agreed upon the search continued.
During his time Gavin also needed to provide consistent and timely communication with Social Energy’s UK head office to keep them updated. He would ensure he made himself available to speak with them at any time of day or night to provide peace of mind in the process.
Selling new start-up businesses to candidates can present challenges and raise questions around the type of business candidates will consider as a new employer. CSG Talent created a candidate engagement pack on behalf of Social Energy highlighting their business proposition and promoting their credibility. Using this tool CSG Talent became a brand advocate for Social Energy and sold the vision of the business.
Throughout the process the Renewable Energy team developed a good, healthy network for talent ranging from installations, operations and executive level, and suitable candidates for the retained positions were found.
Gavin went above and beyond in sourcing the talent and once found he ensured to meet with each of them for a thorough interview process before being presented to the client, all of the interviews were conducted face to face, either in person or online, with our Renewable Energy consultant even flying interstate to meet those he could in between lockdowns.
In the end he was able to present Social Energy with 20 short listed candidates for consideration and Social Energy they were able to place all four of their Senior Sales Managers. In less than a year since their placement, one has become the Managing Director of Australia and another Country Sales Manager proving the right people joined the right company.
Since the original placement CSG Talent has maintained an ongoing relationship with Social Energy and has been able to help build their Australia team further with 15 other positions for the business including Installation Managers, Technical Support, Sales Executives, Logistics Managers, Operations Managers, Accountants and just recently their Chief Financial Officer.
